Polyfest - April 2025

Polyfest - April 2025

Over the last week our school has participated in the Polyfest which is the largest event of it's kind in the world. Our Maori, Tongan and Samoan groups represented the College with pride in the 50th anniversary.

Our Tongan group performed beautifully as the rain came down at the Manukau sports bowl. Although we did not come home with a trophy, what we achieved together was far greater. Through your commitment, patience, and countless hours of preparation, our boys stood on that stage with pride, confidence, and a deepened understanding of their identity and culture. That is a win worth celebrating. Our Head prefects led the group with distinction. Well, done to Mr Afungia and the Tongan group.

Last Wednesday our Junior Kapa Haka performed with mana and poise. The dedication and work they put in was on clear display. The group achieved 2nd Place in the Maurakau, 3rd Place in the Moteatea, Kaea and Reo categories. They also achieved 3rd Place in the Mita o te reo/language.

Congratulations on an amazing achievement and a special thank you to Matua Ben Christie for his mahi and aroha he has put into this campaign.

Our Samoan group also performed on Friday in the heavy rain but that didn’t dampen their performance. The group was connected and showed an amazing level of skill and were in full voice. The group placed in the following categories:

Ulufafo (exit) - 3rd place

Togiga (Uniform) - 3rd place

Sasa (Slap dance) - 2nd place

Taualuga I(conductor) Zorro Masoe - Zorro Masoe

Pese o le aso (song of the day) 1st place

Manaia - 1st equal Jesse Ma'aelopa

Taualuga - 1st place

They won first place overall. This is one of the toughest competitions, so to achieve first place in the 50th anniversary is an amazing result and we are extremely proud of your achievements.

Our Senior Kapa Haka group will get their opportunity this Thursday at Western Springs after their event was postponed on Friday. We wish you all the very best.
